A First Contact Practitioner (FCP) is a physiotherapist who is professionally qualified to treat patients without a referral from a GP or other healthcare professional. FCPs provide the first point of contact whereby those who visit a GP for a musculoskeletal (MSK) problem will instead have an appointment with an FCP physiotherapist.
Non-NHS Services
Some services provided are not covered under our contract with the NHS and therefore attract charges. Examples include the following:
Medicals for pre-employment, sports and driving requirements (HGV, PSV etc.)
Insurance claim forms
Prescriptions for taking medication abroad
Private sick notes
Vaccination certificates
The fees charged are based on the British Medical Association (BMA) suggested scales and our reception staff will be happy to advise you about them along with appointment availability.
There is lots of information on how to sign up, where your nearest collection point is, also provides advice on contraception, relationships and sexuality.
This service is free and confidential for young people living in Nottinghamshire.
Clinical Pharmacists
Our Clinical pharmacists are highly skilled healthcare professionals with expert knowledge of medication, who are passionate about ensuring that patients are taking medication that is appropriate, safe and effective for them. Our pharmacists work closely with the multidisciplinary teams across all of the surgeries in Rushcliffe and our care homes team, to provide clinical expertise.
You can book in with one of the Clinical Pharmacy team if you are requiring a medication review or if you have any queries regarding your medication.
Social Prescribing
Social Prescribing – a service designed to support you to find non-medical solutions to improve your health and well-being.
Perhaps you are feeling anxious, lonely, struggling with making healthy lifestyle choices, wanting to live well and independently as you grow older….?
Did you know that over a third of GP appointments are for non-medical matters – that’s where the Social Prescribing Team comes in.
We give you time to tell us what’s important to you.
We can support you to access lots of different things like counselling, benefits advice, weight loss services, community groups, information to help you age well and stay living independently.
We can help you make referrals to specialist services or help you look for volunteering opportunities within the community. We offer one to one goal based support to maximise your wellbeing and help you make the changes you want to.
We base much of our support around the 5 Ways to Wellbeing.
If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you will first need to complete a travel questionnaire. The nursing team will then check what vaccinations are required by viewing your medical records and the department of health guidelines for the area and location you are travelling to. Please allow plenty of notice for appointments for travel vaccinations, as these type of vaccinations take at least 2 weeks to become effective, and may require more than one dose. Ideally, you are advised to submit your travel questionnaire at least 6 weeks before departure.
Note: even for non-travellers, it is important to keep up to date with tetanus and polio vaccinations. If you are not sure whether you are currently protected, please contact our nurses who will be happy to advise you further.
Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.
