Clinics and Services

DIABETIC CLINIC
This is run by the nurse to ensure that your diabetes is well controlled and to pick up any complications early. Please make an appointment with the practice nurse.

chdCARDIAC/STROKE CLINIC
This is run by the nurse to monitor your blood pressure and to assess and treat any risk factors to reduce the possibility of further events. The nurse will contact you if you need an appointment.

MINOR SURGERY
We are trained and approved to perform simple operations and joint injections. These are carried out in the comfort of the health centre.

WELL PERSON CHECKS
If you are over 16 years this is your opportunity to have your own “MOT”. These are run by our practice nurses with particular emphasis on helping you to avoid heart disease and maintain a healthy lifestyle. We would particularly like to see any adult up to 75 years old who has not been seen in the last 3 years, and over 75s who have not been seen in the last 12 months. Home visits can be arranged if necessary.

Our Health Care Assistant is a trained New Leaf adviser and can help with stopping smoking.

ADULT & TRAVEL VACCINATIONS
Routine immunisations and travel vaccinations are available by making an appointment with one of our practice nurses.

If you are planning a multi-destination holiday e.g. backpacking, you will need to obtain up-to-date information for your specific needs.  Please telephone the MASTA line on 0906 822 4100 or visit their website at www.Masta.org, or phone NHS Direct on 0845 46 47, prior to your appointment with the nurse.

Are you up-to date with your polio and tetanus?

FLU VACCINES
These are available every year commencing in October. If you are over 65 or in one of the at-risk groups look out for notices about our FLU DAY or we will contact you by letter. At-risk groups include: chronic heart problems, chronic chest problems, including asthma(on regular preventative therapy) chronic renal failure, diabetes and immunosuppression, including spleen removal.

PNEUMONIA VACCINE
This is recommended for everyone over 65 years as well as the at-risk groups.

To help minimize the effect of asthma on your life. The treatment will be tailored to your needs. You will learn how to vary treatment when necessary.

CERVICAL SMEARS
All women between the ages of 25 and 49 are recommended to have a cervical smear every three years. For women between 50 and 64 it is every five years.

FAMILY PLANNING
We provide a comprehensive family planning service and will help you choose the most suitable contraceptive and provide it for you. Please make an appointment with one of the practice nurses or a doctor.

pregnantANTENATAL CLINIC
The Midwife is here to help you and your baby stay healthy during pregnancy. You will be seen regularly by the midwife and the doctor, with occasional visits to the hospital. In addition there are antenatal, parentcraft and postnatal classes.

BABY CLINIC & CHILD HEALTH SURVEILLANCE
Wednesdays 1.45 – 4.00pm
All children from 0 – 5 years are seen at regular intervals to monitor their growth and development. This will enable us to detect any problems as they arise. Baby checks are carried out at 6 weeks by a doctor. The Health Visitor will monitor your child’s growth and development. The Health Visitors and Midwife can be contacted on 0115 9334793.

CHILDHOOD IMMUNISATIONS
Children’s immunisations – Wednesday 1.30- 3.30pm. The practice provides a full immunisation service and we strongly recommend that all children are immunised according to the National Policy.


FEES FOR PRIVATE WORK

Please be aware that many certificates and certain services are not covered by the National Health Service. This includes sick notes for less than a week’s absence from work, private health claim forms, notes for fitness to travel, cancellation of holidays etc. Fees are payable at reception on completion of relevant paperwork.
